SEO (Search Engine Optimization) in simple terms deals with how Google or any search engine sees your website. Websites that are optimized and taken care of on a regular basis tend to not only receive higher praise from the clients that are on the website but also tend to receive higher rankings for the respective keywords that are targeted.
Optimization is a way to get more traffic to your website on a regular basis which can only bring in more money! If you talk to website owners that spend no time on their websites and do not try to optimize you will find nothing but frustration. There is a common belief that as long as you have a website you will start to get traffic to it. The reality is that websites get very little direct traffic with out the proper amount of back links and optimization.
The numbers dont LIE!
There is a considerable difference in website traffic based on how the website ranks. Simply getting on the 1st page of google for any keyword let alone a good keyword can make a big difference in website traffic.
It is very hard to gauge the accuracy of the statistics that are released about the true value of getting top postion or 1st page rankings. It is hard to deny the pure branding power it has to show up in those positions. We have seen the following stats show up over and over again concerning rankings
42.13%- 11.9%
- 8.50%
- 6.06%
- 4.92% and so on
If these numbers are even remotely true then the number one postion sure can pay off. Looking at the pure numbers per thousand vistors can help give you a better idea of the direct impact.
Lets say that you average a mire $10 per thousand vistors to your website. On average with out SEO you get around 1,000 vistors per month, so your income would be $10. Lets say the numbers that are correct and getting the 1st postion can fetch you 42% of the search traffic on a key word that gets over 100,000 search results on a monthly basis. That would be over 42,000 hits and @ $10 per 1,000 it would make you on average $420. That is quite a large increase.
The averages for most companies when it comes to income from a website is more like $100 per 1,000 vistors. so with real numbers it would be more than $4,200 a month from a website. In most cases that pays for the employee who dedicates time and energy into the website as well as most of the other marketing that you would do as a company. Some companies like law firms can average over $150 per billable hour which can make the above numbers look like a joke.
Websites are all built a little different.
Some website designers understand SEO so they incorporate SEO into the website build. Utilizing tools like robot.txt files and alt tags for all images on a website go along way for SEO. If you have no idea what I just mentioned then you will struggle to get top search results unless there is no competition online for your company.
SEO can make or break a companies online results. Having a website does not mean you will get visitors. If you do not take the pain staking time to SEO your website then you will always come up short with your web traffic.
